We also evaluated whether the information displayed affected the selection of vegetables. The participants were students at the Japan Women’s College of Physical Education and were classified as those who belonged to the athletic club （n＝72） and those who did not belong to the athletic club （n＝25）. Our results demonstrate no significant difference in food purchasing decisions between female university students who belonged to the sports club and those who did not belong to the sports club. About 90％ of the female university students selected a food based on its “price.” Next, they placed emphasis on the “package” or the “product name” when purchasing food. In contrast, only about 10％ to 20％ of the respondents referred to the “raw material” or “nutritional information.” Female college students who belonged to the athletic club tended to choose carrots more frequently than those who did not belong to the athletic club. However, there were many who chose “carrot A,” which did not display any information. Thus, there was no obvious reason to choose “carrot A.” When asked the reason for their selection, several people described “nutritional information,” “production areas,” and “raw materials,” which were not displayed on “carrot A.” Based on the results of this study, female university students who belonged to the athletic club and engaged in sports did not select carrots based on the label information displaying “nutritional information,” “production areas,” or “how to grow.” However, they referred to this information when selecting vegetables and vegetable dishes that they were not fond of.
