For Eguchi, as a teacher at a physical education college who at the time recommended ‘basic movement’, expressive movement, and creative methods for creative dance in school physical education, Ankoku Butoh and postmodern dance appeared around the same time, which did not dance and did not emphasize Eguchi’s concept of compositional methods, were dances that were incompatible with the modern dance he practiced and the creative dance of school physical education. For this reason, Eguchi expressed a critical view of these avant-garde dances.\nHowever, Eguchi was originally positive about avant-garde efforts and published arguments for and against these avant-garde dances in his research journal, and he used to present innovative dance works without dancing. Considering the above, it can be assumed that even though Eguchi as an artist was interested in avant-garde dances, it was difficult for him as a teacher at a physical education college, who taught creative methods in line with the subject matter and dances with sufficient dancing in the field of school physical education, to easily accept avant-garde dances that did not dance and were different from the creative methods he sought.
