One skilled female fencer performed marche fente on gymnasium floor; two synchronized high-speed video cameras(300 fps)were used to record her performance using the direct linear transformation(DLT)technique. The threedimensional coordinates of the segment endpoints(23 points)were determined to calculate the kinematic variables. The kinematic characteristics of movements during marche fente in this study were summarized as follows. 1) The forward velocity of the right wrist increased during the first halves of the marche and fente phases. 2) The angles of the left hip, knee, and ankle joints during the first half of the fente phase increased to a greater extent than those of the marche phase did. 3) During the first half of the fente phase, forward acceleration of the center of mass was obtained by extending the left hip joint sufficiently. 4) Twisting of the trunk occurred repeatedly during the movement of marche fente. In particular, the twist angle of the trunk during the second half of the fente phase was greater than that during the other phases.
