The class was provided to students from three different universities offering junior high and high school PE teacher-training courses. Students specializing in dance and non-dance participated in a creative dance class themed “Emit Light in the Dark.” Immediately after the performance, questionnaires about the class they experienced were distributed, collected, and analyzed. We discussed the effectiveness of the theme from the perspective of the students who participated in the class (review of engagement) and added findings from the analysis of comments in the free answer section of the questionnaire to the discussion. As a result, whether students were specializing in dance or not, many tended to be able to imagine different lights through the theme and find new ideas, movements, and expressions from the process of creating a dance. Also, many noticed changes in their movements and were able to express what they could not perform alone by creating and dancing with friends. Many also thought the three types of music helped them broaden the range of dance movements and images, which verified the effectiveness of the use of several, different types of music. Students specializing in dance tend to focus on imaging the light and actively adopting the music in their activities for creation compared to non-dance students. In general, students, whether they specialize in dance or not, tend to assess their achievement as high for the purpose of the theme. Also, many students gave positive feedback.
