This study aimed to prospectively examine the frequency of high-impact movements during basketball games of female college athletes and occurrence of injury. 16 female basketball players were participated. Trunk acceleration was measured to detect high impact movements during basketball game and the calculated the frequency of these movement which generated at > 4, 6 and 8 G resultant accelerations. The Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre questionnaire was used to evaluate their condition affected by injury for 191 days. Frequency of high impact movements were compared between those who have over 20 days substantial injury or not. Injured group demonstrated significantly higher frequency of high impact movements generated at > 4 G and > 6 G (p < 0.05, respectively). Higher frequency of high-impact movements was suggested to be a risk factor for the occurrence of ankle, knee, and shank injuries in basketball players. Understanding the influence of high-impact movements during games on each of body regions will provide insight into the factors that contribute to the occurrence of injuries. |
